On My Mind

Sometimes I wonder how life works. Media reports are that inflation has been dropping in the recent months in South Africa but to my surprise basic groceries prices seem to be picking. I am missing something? Now I hear Eskom proposes to hike electricity charges by 45% in next three years. Things are not getting any better, are they?

I agree with you colligue, and I think most people are just hiding behind inflstion and recesion. In the case of Eskom, it is just monopolic strategy because it knows that it is the only power supplier to the country. I think the government can just subsidise Eskom, because if the power prices go up, we know that the next thing will be salary increment strikes

That's exactly what I thought! More protests and that can't be good for the economy. Let's just hope it's a ploy by Eskom to twist government's arm in to subsidising it further. I don't see an average South African coping with such suggested hike. Let's wait, hope and pray because it is still at a proposal stage.
